"Stained Glass"

This fun project is a great way to get the kids outside for these last few days of cool weather before the deep freeze sets in. It also gets all your dull crayons sharpened.

"Stained Glass"

Leaves
Wax paper
Crayons
Pencil Sharpener
Iron
Ironing board
2 Hand towels
Construction paper cut into 2" strips
Stapler

Collect leaves of all shapes and sizes from outside.  You do not want the leaves to be crispy and falling apart.  I find if you can pick them off the tree this seems to work better.

Remove the stems from the leaves trying not to tear the leaves.

Turn on Iron and set on high to let warm up

Place one hand towel down on the ironing board and on that place a sheet of wax paper.  You can judge the size depending how big you want your project to be.

Place leaves on wax paper in whatever pattern you choose but try to leave approximately 1 inch as a border around the edges.

Choose as many different color crayons as you want for your project. In a separate plate or bowl sharpen them and collect all the sharpenings.

Sprinkle your project with the sharpenings trying not to get too close to the edges of the wax paper. The more the better!

Place an equal sized piece of waxed paper on top. Followed by the second hand towel.

Iron on top of hand towel being sure to not leave the iron in anyone spot for too long to keep from scorching your project.

Peek periodically to see if wax is melting.

Once wax is melted remove project from between hand towels.

Take construction paper strips and fold in half to create a border.  staple into place.

Hang in window and enjoy your new stained glass!

Tip: If you don't have construction paper use what you have on hand for the border.  For ours we used felt.
