Spooky Ghost

Hopefully you saved your cheese cloth and google eyes from your spooky pumpkin because they are needed again! These super cute ghosts are easy to make and fun to display.  Great project for kids!

Spooky Ghost

You will need:

Cheese cloth
(2) small Google Eyes
(1) Paper Towel Roll Tube
Aluminum Foil
Wire (Wire Hanger Will Work)
Tape
Something to place project on while making your ghost and until it dries.  (cookie sheet, parchment paper on cardboard)
1/4 cup Cornstarch
1/2 cup cold water
3 3/4 cups boiling water

Start by making some liquid starch:

Put 1/4 cup of cornstarch and 1/2 cup cold water into sealed container. Shake until mixed well.

Boil 3 3/4 cups of water

Gradually add cornstarch mixture into boiling water.

Turn off heat and allow to cool.

Create frame of Ghost:

Cut slits into bottom of cardboard tube and spread out and tape to your work surface. (Make sure to attach well. I did not use enough tape in the beginning and I had to add more later which was a little tough.)

Use wire and foil to create arms and head and attach with tape.  Here is where you decide how you want your ghost positioned so get crafty!

Next cut large pieces of cheesecloth and dip into liquid corn starch squeezing off any excess.  Make sure pieces are long enough so they drape onto the work surface.  This makes it easier to position the cloth the way you want it and its also the surface the ghost will rest on. I found using larger pieces of cheese cloth made it easier to spread and separate.

Continue to dip pieces of cheesecloth and layer on top of one another until you are happy with the look of your ghost.  I used 4 layers to achieve my finished product.

Let dry over night.  Carefully remove ghost from frame when it it COMPLETELY dry.

Add two google eyes to give it that extra little bit of character!

Tip: You can use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process if the kids are getting a little antsy to see the finished product!
